The Manly Jalapeno Bean Burger

Hello humans!

It’s Thursday again! My favorite day of the week! Thank you to everyone who left a recipe last week! There are plenty of new things I want to try!

I haven’t been cooking by myself every day. Ashton and I have been cooking together and it has been a blast! I wish I would’ve started this years ago! We now have about 45 more minutes every day that we spend together! I highly recommend it!

This week’s meal wasn’t so much for my pregnant wife. I wanted to make something for myself. I love meat. Meat meat meat. I love chicken, I love pig, I love cow. But I also believe Americans consume too much meat and I want to do my part by eating less. Which is why this week’s Dad’s Cooking Dinner will be 100% vegetarian! And believe me, I was really nervous going into it! I have had a few veggie burgers in my day and I have neverĀ  been impressed! But 2018 is the year of trying new things so here we go!IMG_1766

I found a few different recipes online and removed things I didn’t like and added some things I wanted. This entire meal cost about $8 and made 6 patties! Here is the recipe:

bean burger

So I started out mashing my beans.IMG_1790This is what I imagine sticking my hand in a dirty diaper then mashing it around will feel like so I’m glad I got some experience. This is a super easy recipe. You basically just throw a bunch of stuff into a bowl and mix it up.

It looks just like meat! Except that it doesn’t…

I also made some hand-cut fries!

My bean burgers were sticky… They smelled great! Like a plate of nachos!

They look like butt

But once they grilled for a few minutes, they began to look more and more like burgers.IMG_1813IMG_1801

Here Goes Nothing…

It was delicious! Seriously! I didn’t think it was possible to replace something so good as a hamburger but this totally does! I know so many people who say they love meat but then eat frozen beef patties that taste like… well, a frozen beef patty. Doing a few vegetarian meals a week isn’t that scary as long as you know how to cook. It doesn’t have to be a dry salad or a plate of broccoli. If you add flavor you won’t miss meat. Believe me. Try to replace a few meals with meatless ones. You could add a few years onto your life, or even the earth!

Meals Dad-To-Be knows: 5

Thanks! D.W.

P.S. Since this meal is so easy, I figured I’d do a two-for-one.

My wife and I love Red Robin. One of the things we love about it is the Campfire sauce we dip our fries into.

1/2 cup of mayo, 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce and Colgin Liquid Smoke (very potent, only a few drops) It was delicious both on the burger and the fries!
